LS2 RACE Report: ARLINGTON, 2023

JOSH CARTWRIGHT

Josh Cartwright, boasting with confidence, walked into the Texas size Arlington stadium with a smile on his face on Saturday morning. He was happy to see the tight track layout and Texas dirt similar to what he is used to. Josh hit the track with aggression as the practice sessions began. Understanding the necessity to qualify top 18 to get straight through to the mains, due to the triple crown format, Josh looked very focused all day. Josh was loose and fast as always and it was easy to see that man and machine were working flawlessly. Josh easily qualified in and was excited to see what he could do in the Mains. When the first one began, Josh was a victim to a mistake out of his control and he was doing everything he could to regroup. By the time the checkers flew he had only made it up a couple spots but was happy to go to the next one. The next race he was forced without an outside gate pick and did his best to get a good jump. He was shuffled to the back and made up a very impressive four positions by the finish. The final race of the night was a similar story only sprinkled with chaos. Josh stayed on two wheels and brought home another very impressive top 20 finish.

JOAN CROS

Joan Cros has been doing his best to keep a positive mind set through the trials and tribulations that 2023 has provided him thus far. After having some issues last weekend with a quick hospital visit, Joan finally arrived in Dallas and was ready to focus on his racing. Battered and bruised, Joan took to the tack. He immediately grew trust in the soil and was taking advantage of the early morning grip. He put his name up on the board early on in the session and kept it there. The next few sessions went well for Joan as well as he began to cut his time down quicker and quicker. By the end of qualifying he had made it inside the top 35 and knew there was work left to do in the LCQ if he wanted to ride under the lights. When the gate dropped for this one, Joan put himself right in the mix as he likes to do and was doing everything he could to avoid the chaos around him. Unfortunately the craziness got the best of him and he found himself picking his bike up off the Stadium floor. Nevertheless, he re-mounted and crossed the finish line with dignity.

SCOTTY WENNERSTROM

Scotty Wennerstrom has been looking great so far this season and the Texas native was happy to be at his home state race inside AT&T stadium. Scotty hit the track and attacked the orange Dallas soil with a smile on his face. He looked very comfortable almost immediately and looked hungry as he charged each and every lap of his qualifying session. The next session was similar as he began to really find his groove as he topped the board in his group. Scotty qualified inside the top 40 with ease but due to the Triple crown format, only the top 18 went straight to the Mains so he knew he had work to do in the LCQ if he wanted a shot. When this race began, Scotty did not get a very favorable start but put his head down and started his work. Scotty passed multiple riders each lap and it was a very commendable performance. He would make it back to 13th by the end, just 9 spots away from Qualifying position. On to Daytona!
